Guitar Lessons

The history of the guitar goes back to the 12th Century and yet it still remains one of the most prominent instruments in modern music. New and inexperienced players are encouraged to explore the many sounds that are possible, and quickly our students build confidence and carve out their musical niche. Meanwhile, established players can continue to explore their favourite styles in greater depth, whilst honing their technique, musical knowledge and repertoire. From classical, to metal, to jazz - the guitar has something for everyone.

Our lessons will start with understanding the fundamentals of producing a good sound when pressing - or 'fretting' - the strings on the guitar, and finger exercises of progressive difficulty are used as warm ups to enhance dexterity. A part of each session will be dedicated to reading and performing music straight off the page, as well as gradually building an arsenal of scales, arpeggios and chords to boost creative and improvisational skills. Then we start to introduce more advanced techniques that can shape a player's sound - bends, vibrato, hammer ons and pull offs, tapping, harmonics and more! Finally, our focus will be on performance where the student can play their favourite songs and artists, or even try their own hand at songwriting and crafting their own compositions.

We also use Rockschool and ABRSM examinations to aid in our progression and confidence building. Here, students will demonstrate the technical skills they have learned, perform selected pieces either solo or to a backing, and be able to identify and respond to musical cues and concepts on the spot.
